Mortgage insurance amount on form 1098 box 5 (VA funding fee) is same from refi originator and new loan servicer. Do I enter both for each 1098?

It seems strange that the exact VA Funding fee appears on both 1098s. I paid the fee as part of the refi. Do I enter the amount for both 1098s since it listed on both. I have not received any corrected 1098s

No, deduct the VA Funding Fee only once with your original lender in the below area:

  • Type in mortgage interest the search box, top right of your screen, then click the magnifying glass

  • Click the jump to mortgage interest link in the search results

  • Follow to prompts and online instructions

See Let's get the details from your lender 1098 now page

Enter in Box #5, Mortgage insurance premium
