I retired in 2019. Under Deductions & Credits, Medical Expenses Turbo Tax has added two entries, one dollar amount for federal review and a different amount for Smart Check. I have no idea where these number are coming from since I entered $0.00 for all medical deductions. And neither amount matches Medicare Part B expenses withheld from my SSA-1099. Please help. Thanks.

Clarify for us what is the exact message in the Review? What is the exact message in Smart Check?
Thank you for the fast reply. I realize I misread the heading on the Deductions & Credits section. One amount is listed for 2021 deductions and the second for 2022 deductions. This is puzzling since I did not itemize any medical expenses either for 2021 or 2022. I'm retired and my primary health insurance is Medicare Parts A & B. Part B premiums are deducted from my monthly Social Security payments. When I retired as a civil service employee, I rolled over my federal employee health insurance to what is now my secondary health insurance. Those premiums are deducted from my federal pension. None of these numbers add up to what Turbo Tax has listed as my 2022 Medical Expenses.
Since my original post, I've gone through the remainder of Turbo Tax sections and the Smart Check indicates there are no errors. That said I'm hesitant to submit anything until I get a better understanding of how Turbo Tax generated my 2022 Medical Expenses. Any guidance you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated.
TurboTax will automatically enter certain health insurance expenses that you have entered in other parts of the TurboTax interview. These include:
If this does not explain the amounts you are seeing in your deduction summary, please respond back with more details about exactly what is listed and what forms you have include in your tax return.
Hi and good morning Julie,
I just figured out how Turbo Tax pulled that figure. It was simple addition that I missed.
Thank you for taking the time to help me. I very much appreciate it.
Sincerely,
