Unlike traditional purchase and sale of stocks and derivatives, Mark to Market traders establish their profit and loss on a daily basis (Much like watching the daily value of the DOW or S&P 500).

The traders profit or loss is evaluated for tax purposes every year and it is simply the difference between the beginning and ending value of the portfolio. Purchases and sales are not part of the calculation. What is Mark to Market
