Making a 2016 HSA contribution before April cut-off

I did not put anything in my HSA last year other than what my employer gave, so it is not maxed out.  I want to make a contribution to my 2016 HSA before April 15 to zero my tax liability.  Do I need to wait for a form back from Fidelity where I have my HSA, or what screen can I put in that amount once I've sent the check?

No, you do not have to wait to receive a form from Fidelity.

If you contribute to your Health Savings Account (HSA), outside of Payroll, with after-tax monies, TurboTax will ask about that when you step through the Medical section.

  • To enter your HSA contribution:
  • Type HSA in the search box and click search.
  • Click on Jump to HSA.
  • Continue with the onscreen interview.
  • On the Did you put money into an HSA in 2016? screen, answer Yes.
  • On the Let's enter your HSA contributions screen, enter the HSA contribution in the Any contributions you personally made (not through your employer) box.
