Lyft referral bonuses for passengers

Hi everybody,

I am a Lyft passenger. I do NOT drive for Lyft. I post my referral code

online and when somebody signs up through it, I get a discount up to $10 for my next ride. I did not receive a 1099-NEC for it. How should I phrase it on Schedule C? Is “Referral Bonus as Lyft Passenger” correct?

Discounts for referrals are not taxable so they would not need to be included on your return.  If they were paying you cash instead of giving you a discount, then this would be taxable income.  However, it would not be reported on Schedule C, it would just be reported as other income.
