For the first time in years, TurboTax let me down. When I entered the mortgage interest from the Form 1098, it was not automatically deducted. When I compared last year's (2019) data to the data this year (2020) the numbers were near identical but the program insisted I take the standard deduction in lieu of itemizing like last year. This was due to the program not assuming that my mortgage loan was secured by the property itself, likely the norm for most ordinary situations. It was necessary for the first time that I recall to check the "yes" box for this during the interview process. That corrected things and it looks as it should now with the interest properly acounted for as a deduction.
