Expenses for an office in the home that is for the convenience of your employer when you are paid with a W-2 are entered as part of Form 2106 Employee Business Expenses.
Then, the total amount from that form is included as part of Schedule A, Itemized Deductions. This means that in order to receive a tax benefit for claiming unreimbursed employee expenses, you must be using itemized deductions.
To go to the section of your return to enter your expenses, use these steps:
On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
This opens a box where you can type in “2106” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 2106”
Click on the blue “Jump to 2106” link
Note: Employee business expenses claimed on Form 2106 are no longer deductible on the Federal tax return as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for 2018 through 2025, with only a limited number of exceptions. Form 2106 may still be deducted on your state return if the state did not comply with the Federal changes.
