Is a pet adoption fee tax deductible?

I adopted a dog from a local rescue. I was told his adoption fee was tax deductible. Is this true?

It depends. If the fee paid was a requirement for the adoption process then no, it is not tax deductible.

However, if the fee paid was not required, but a suggestion then would be considered a donation.
