Is a church-based child care provider a tax-exempt organiation?

In deductions and credits, I am putting in my child care expenses, and Turbotax asks me whether the organization is tax-exempt.
The provider is a church. Is it tax exempt?

Is a church-based child care provider a tax-exempt organiation?

Most likely your church based child care provider is a tax exempt organization.  However, some daycares or preschools associated with churches are organized under entities separate from the actual church.  The only way to know for sure is to check with your child care provider.

No, it should not affect your return numerically.  If you qualify for the deduction, than you'll get it either way.

If you don't have a taxpayer number and write "exempt", you will not be able to e-file, and you will have to print and mail your return in.  That may add 2-3 weeks to your refund processing time, but does not affect the amount of the credit.  Also, if they pay employees, they must have an EIN, even though they don't pay income tax.  So there's no reason for them not to give it to their clients.

Okay. THank you both very much for your answers! (I have the tax-ID number of the provider.)
