If I was gifted a house by a parent in December of 2020, do I put that I owned a house? I don't have a mortgage and haven't had to pay property taxes for 2020.

If I was gifted a house by a parent in December of 2020, do I put that I owned a house? I don't have a mortgage and haven't had to pay property taxes for 2020.

There is no reason for you to report the house on your income tax return if you are holding it for personal use, do not have and pay any expenses that would be considered itemized deductions, such as property taxes and mortgage interest. 

 

Your parents may (and most likely do) have to to file a gift tax return (see link below) and you should seek guidance from a tax and/or legal professional concerning this transaction.
