I read somewhere where it was where you lived based on January 1st of tax year?

I can't recall what the significant of this is but I recall reading somewhere that something with taxes is based on where you live January 1st of the year can you jog my memory about this?

What is based on January 1st?

You should enter your current address (i.e., where you get your mail) on your tax return.

You want the IRS to have your current mailing address in case they need to mail you a letter or a check.  Not sure what you think it has to do with January 1.

I don't thing that has anything to do with income tax. In my county, one can exempt up to $50K of their property's assessed value from property tax, if the home was their primary residence on Jan 1st of the tax year. But again, that has nothing to do with income tax.

That is just Florida (and perhaps a few other states) with respect to January 1st.

Per Florida Statute, property is assessed to its just value as of January 1st of each year (as well as homestead determination).
