I had an HSA excess contribution in '22, but I no longer have a high deductable plan. TurboTax requires that I say I had coverage for 1+ months in '24. What do I do?

TurboTax won't let me file my Federal returns without indicating I had coverage that I didn't have

When you carry over an excess HSA contribution, you need to deal with it in the following year. You evidently did not do that in 2023 on your 2022 excess contribution.

So, as a result, your excess 2023 contribution carried over to 2024.. You need to file form 8889 every year that you have a carryover of excess HSA contributions.

Do you still have the HSA? Do you have enough cash in the HSA to withdraw the amount that was the excess?? Although that amount withdrawn will be taxed and penalized an additional 20%, it will at last cut off the carryover.

As for 2024, where are you seeing TurboTax telling you that you have to have some sort of coverage? Is it in the Review or in the HSA interview? Until I know where you are seeing this, I can't tell you how to proceed.
