I did not get credit for my home mortgage interest. please help me understand the new rules. I refinanced my original loan back in 2009 for home improvements.

The tax law changed and you may not have enough to itemize anymore. For a married couple you need $24k in expenses which include mortgage interest, property taxes, state taxes and charitable contributions, these are generally the main items on Schedule A.
