I am itemizing. The program will not let me edit medical expenses. It gives me a message saying that that deduction won't affect my taxes. How can I add more expenses?

Search for medical expenses and use the jump to link. You will go to prescription costs - then click through the screens to get to the category you want to add.
To deduct medical, dental, or vision costs on your federal return, you have to itemize your deductions instead of taking the Standard Deduction. For most people, the Standard Deduction produces the best outcome on your taxes. You can read our article to learn more about the differences.
If you itemize, you can deduct medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI).
The IRS has an extensive list of what you can and can’t deduct.

Thank you. I followed your directions, but I didn't get sent to the prescription page. It just gave me the same message about it not affecting my taxes. I previously completed going through all of the questions and the program said that it would be better for me to itemize. However, it's not letting me add more medical expenses for some reason.

If you go back to the medical expense section and it asks if you spent a certain amount of money for medical reasons, then you have to answer 'yes' to that question or you will not be able to enter any medical expenses.
The idea is that you do not need to enter the medical expenses unless the total is higher than the calculated number on the screen. If your total does not exceed the number that TurboTax has calculated, then your tax return will not be affected by entering the medical expenses.
