I am from India. I changed from F1 to H1B in 2017. I am Non-resident alien for 2017.Can I claim standard deduction (US-India treaty) or will I have to itemize deductions?

As a nonresident from India, you have the option to take the standard deduction.  You do not have to itemize.

As a nonresident from India, you have the option to take the standard deduction.  You do not have to itemize.

But, article 21(2) clearly says the treaty is for students and business apprentices only.
