Hurricane Ida

Aside from the casualty loss deduction of items due to Hurricane Ida, can you also deduct the cost we paid a water remediation company to rip up the carpet,

pump out the water and dry out the area?  It was $5K.

    If those costs are also associated with the Hurricane Ida damage you can include them in that deduction.

     Here is how to claim the costs for the causality loss.

     

    1. Go to federal>deductions and credits>other deductions and credits>casualties and theft
    2. Then go through the questions. You will need a Fema disaster code to complete the section and receive the deduction.
