How to remove medical expense and take standard deduction ?

Follow the directions below to delete schedule A (where your medical expenses are listed) and select the standard deduction.

Delete Schedule A as follows:

  1. Log in and click take me to my return (unless already in).
  2. Click Tax Tools from the left-side menu.
  3. Select Tools from the drop down menu.
  4. Click Topic Search, click the delete a form hyperlink listed, select Schedule A form to delete.

Choose the Standard Deduction as follows:

Click the Search box on the top, right side of the screen. Type the exact phrase itemized deductions, choosing including the comma and click the jump to link that pops up.

Please keep in mind that your state return may allow itemized deductions to be claimed even if you choose to take the standard deduction on your federal return. If this is the case, you can just choose to take the standard deduction without deleting your itemized expenses.

The following states allow you to itemize deductions on just the state return: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, and Wisconsin,
