Help!!

Recently I have applied for food stamps for my kids. (3 total) if I file 1 as a dependent & let their dad file for 2, can I get introuble/fined?!

there is no reason from a federal standpoint that you can't do a Married Filing Separate return.  between you and your spouse you can divide the dependents any way you agree to.  however, I can't say whether or not you'll end up paying more in taxes then you might lose in the value of the food stamps.

We will both be filing separately. Just freaked out, read a question on here similar to mine & someone else answered that food stamp office will consider you a fraud?! But then a like to TANF was put. So idk if u understood wrong or the other person answering did.
