I'm an independent contractor on Medicare with a Medigap policy. The Medigap policy is the one offered by CalPERS (CalPERS: California Public Employees' Retirement System) through my wife's former employer, but I pay for it. She is not yet Medicare eligible and her entire premium is still covered by CalPERS as a retiree.
My question is: Can I take a deduction of the whole premium (Medicare and Medigap), just the Medicare, or none at all? My net income exceeds the cost of the premiums, so no limitation there.
Thank you!

You cannot deduct self-employed health insurance for the months in which you or your spouse were eligible to participate in an employer-subsidized health plan
Therefore, both your premiums under the Medicare and Medigap program are not eligible for the Self-employed health deduction.

Okay, thank you for taking the time to answer. I wouldn’t be disqualified by virtue of my wife technically having her own employer-sponsored health plan (i.e. former employer), correct? Thanks again.
