I get an error " Form 8936 (copy 1) - Vehicle Identification N0 matches the VIN of another Vehicle. Each vehicle entered on Form 8936 must have a unique VIN." I have double checked and the VIN number is correct. Turbotax will not let me file and there is nothing that I can see to fix this.

Thank you. The problem was getting the credit for a second vehicle. I found that the second vehicle being entered triggered the error. I determined that by deleting and changing the order that I entered the vehicles. I emptied cache, cookies, history, and so on as well as deleting the tax return file and program entirely and starting a new tax return session including a new software download. None of that worked. After many hours of working with product support without success I tried a new approach:
I tried forcing the program to use a second form (rather than just using the second column on the standard form). I did this by entering the second vehicle twice and ignoring the warning that I had entered a duplicate VIN. At that point I had the first vehicle entered as well as two entry’s for the second vehicle. I then edited that section and deleted the first entry for the second vehicle. After doing so I was able to run the review, not get an error regarding the VIN and ultimately file my tax return.
Problem resolved although it involved an unusual fix.
For what purposes are you entering the VIN number? Is it for the electric car tax credit?. What always works best in these situations is to delete the original input from the vehicle and start over from scratch. Before you do that though, I recommend that you clear cache and cookies first. Sign out of the progam. Sign back into the program and then record your vehicle information. Sometimes, eliminating a simple dash (-) symbol or empty space between the input or changing the VIN number input from lower case to upper case or vice versa could make all the difference. Before you delete the entry though, double check the vin numbers of all those vehicles you have listed on that 8936 form to make sure you didn't double up.

Thank you for posting this. I had the same problem and have been waiting for a response from Turbotax support. I find it hard to believe that they haven't been able to make a simple patch to the software. There's no need for Turbotax to check for duplicate VINs to begin with. Leave that to the IRS.
