Form 5695

Last week I entered info for the Energy Tax Credit, and it said I would receive $300 credit, but that I couldn't file yet because form 5695 would not be ready until 02/7/2024.  So today I accessed my online Turbo Tax account and was able to e-file.  However, after submitting my tax return, when I downloaded my return there was no form 5695 included and no credit appeared on 1040 Schedule 3.   I did an online chat with TurboTax AI Assistant and was then given a telephone number and case number to call for further assistance.   After being on hold for 15 minutes, I was connected and explained the issue.   The TurboTax specialist put me on hold again for a few minutes and then when she returned, she said that it would probably take another 10-15 minutes and asked me if I would mind being on hold so she could see how to resolve this issue.  After a few minutes I was disconnected and have not received a return call since then.  :(

When you went back to your return after the form was updated, you would have needed to go back to that section to update your credit.  If you did not, the credit may not have been applied.  If you do not see form 5695 with your return, or a credit on line 20 of your 1040 or line 5 a or 5b on your Schedule 3, the credit was not included.  

At this point, if the credit was not included, you will need to wait until the IRS finalized the amended forms to go back and Amend Your Return to claim the credit. Generally amended forms are available in late February to sometime in March.
