Form 4684 - Zip Code Error

On the casualty and theft worksheet - I get an error that says my zip code is invalid for electronic filing.  I have electronically filed my taxes with the same zip code for the 10 years we've lived here.  I know Hurricane Ian was strong, but did it blow us to a different zip code?

Form 4684 - Zip Code Error

Form 4684 is available for filing.  Therefore, If you are receiving a message like:

ZIP code is invalid for Electronic Filing. You must enter a valid ZIP code for your state. Enter a correct ZIP code in this format 'nnnnn' or 'nnnnn-nnnn'

TurboTax follows the IRS guidelines for acceptable ZIP codes. If the two-letter state abbreviation doesn't match the ZIP code, you'll receive this error when attempting to e-file.

If you receive this error:

  • Double-check that you entered the correct two-letter state code
  • Make sure you've entered the ZIP code in either 5-digit or 9-digit format (for example 12345 or 12345-6789)

Look up the correct ZIP code for the street address in question

If the above doesn't work, log out of your TurboTax account and clear your Cache & Cookies then log back in.
