According to the IRS, https://www.irs.gov/publications/p526/ar02.html#en_US_2012_publink1000229664 We can deduct up to $50 per month AND "Qualifying expenses. You may be able to deduct the cost of books, tuition, food, clothing, transportation, medical and dental care, entertainment, and other amounts you actually spend for the well-being of the student."
Then it says "How To Report
Report your charitable contributions on lines 16 through 19 of Schedule A (Form 1040)."
But I don't see how I get to that section on Turbo Tax?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
For reporting purposes, you will treat it as if donating cash to the charity. As the maximum amount for deduction is $50 a month, you will be allowed to claim up to $50x12=$600 for a year.
