It is difficult to give you an authoritative opinion without knowing more about your medical history.  If you can get a statement from your medical provider that your surgery was medically indicated you would be on firm grounds to support a medical deduction if audited.  Keep in mind that you can only deduct medical expenses if you itemize and you can only deduct the amount greater than 7.5% of your AGI.
