First which state ? And if you qualify for FEIE why are you filing a state return ?
I always filed NY State, and TurboTax always said 0 taxes...until 2019
Unless you have NY sourced income (like having a rental property) you have NO reason to file a NY return ... delete the unneeded return.
It was for interest income on investments, state wanted around $850 same as Federal. They both seemed excessive to me, over 10% of the taxable income...
Or I should say, TurboTax determined I owed bot around $850...
Once again ... if you don't keep a residence in NY for more than 1/2 the year you have no reason to file a NY return ... so don't.
So you're saying non-residency needs to be declared on Federal, but not state, which doesn't need to filed at all. Then what happens if State complains I never filed?
And why did TurboTax State form say I owe money, even though I declared non-residency on their form?
