energy credit- joint occupancy unmarried

we made improvements to our home that qualify for the home energy credits.  we are not married but share expenses on the house.  the amount of improvments we made far exceed the max for the credit of $1200.  on turbotax it asks what amount i paid and the other person paid.  my portion alone maxes the credit out.  my question is when the other person does their return on turbotax and puts in their numbers it also says they get the $1200 credit.  Is that correct?  there is nothing in turbotax that asks either if the other claimed the credit. it only asks what amountthey paid.

is the home energy credit limit , per taxpayer or per home and if its per home. how do each of us put that in turbotax since turbotax has each of our returns with the credit

There are a number of different home energy credits, with different limitations.  So, to answer your question accurately, please share what type of improvement you made.
