Can someone please explain to me why my sons age goes to 17 automatically for 2019, reason why I'm not understanding this is because he was only 17 for 2 weeks in 2019! His birthday is December 15th.

Not understanding this what's so-ever! Thank you

For tax purposes, your age is whatever it is on December 31.  So, if he was 17 at year-end, he does not qualify you for the Child Tax Credit.   Your dependent has to be under the age of 17 on Dec. 31.  He will still qualify you for the Family Tax Credit of $500 though.
