My wife and I file MFS due to me living in PA and my wife living in NJ. Ever since my son was born, I claimed him as a dependant since he spend over 50% of his time with me. I will be traveling a great deal next year and my some will spend most the time with my wife. It is as simple as her adding him as a dependent and me not claming him, or is there a form i need to fill out? Will Turbotax notice the change and do everything for me? I have searched all over for the answer, but most answers deal with divorce or separation. Thank you for your help!

If you are filing married filing separately, either one of you can claim the child as a dependent---the other parent enters nothing about the child on their return. So if you claimed the child last year, you need to make sure the dependent has been deleted from MY INFO when you prepares your return. And Mom needs to enter the child as a dependent in MY INFO on her return.
Thank you for the reply. Is a 8332 form needed or just make sure he is only listed on one return (removed from my and listed on my wife's return)? My impression from reading posts it that the problem come us then the dependents SSN is submitted on two returns for the same year.
No-----8332 is only used with divorced or never married parents who are sharing custody. You are not doing that----you are married and filing separate returns. The dependent's SSN should not be on both of your returns----like I said above----only the parent who is claiming him for 2024 should have him on their return. The other parent deletes him and has NOTHING for him on their return.
Great! Thank you so much for your help and fast response!
