I have a 55 year old unemployed son who does not live with me but whom I supported financially for the entiryear of 2020. Can I deduct the amount of money gave him each month?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
We need more details. Did he have ANY income in 2020? If he had over $4300 of income ---not counting Social Security -- you cannot claim him.
If he meets the criteria to be a qualifying relative for you then you can get the $500 credit for other dependents for claiming him. You will not receive stimulus money for claiming him and HE will not receive stimulus money since dependents are not eligible to receive stimulus checks.
CREDIT FOR OTHER DEPENDENTS
you can not deduct the money given to him each month.
I have solved my question. Thank you for clarification
