Child tax credit

A child age 17 or older is only eligible for the Other Dependent credit of $500.  Being disabled is not relevant for this particular credit.

Child tax credit

There is no additional Child tax credit for children with permanent disability. For a disabled child aged 17, the child tax credit is $500 (Other Dependent credit).

However, a disabled child can be a qualifying child for the earned Income credit at any age. A disabled child at any age is eligible for the Child and Dependent Care credit.

Child tax credit

The Earned Income credit is a refundable credit available to low to moderate income taxpayers with income from a job or self-employment.

It's refundable, meaning that after eliminating your tax liability, any surplus will be paid to you as a refund.
