The IRS gives you two types of deductions, the standard deduction and itemized deductions. Depending on your filling status, you get an automatic standard deduction.

For Tax Year 2024, the standard deduction is as follows:

- Single filers and married filling separately: $14,600

- Married filing Jointly: $29,200

- Head of Household: $21,900

If your combined itemized expenses (including medical) don't exceed the standard, the software will give you the standard deduction automatically.
