Depending on your state, you will be allowed to change your deduction when you prepare the state return. What state are you filing? Not all states allow you to use a different method than you used on your federal return.
Kentucky does not require use of the standard deduction if you used it for Federal filing.
What I am trying to get from Intuit is how to toggle the State standard deduction or itemized deduction myself, as is possible for the federal filing. Why this is so hard to get an answer or do is crazy.
Typically, there is not a way to toggle the state standard deduction or state itemized deduction.
You must enter all of your possible deductions in the Federal return and then the state program will select the most beneficial choice for you to use.
It's clear that is the case. Why TT doesn't allow a change analagous to the Fed deductions makes no sense. It's also silly for TT not to simply have this answer available on the website. Getting this answer was much harder than it should have been.
