Car registration tax deduction for Kentucky

Do I enter the amount in the "Taxable value 6% tax credit" box? Or the amount in the "Advalorem Tax" box that says Curr. Yr. Tax?

Car registration tax deduction for Kentucky

The car registration and personal property taxes deduction is allowed when you are taxed based on the value of the car. Since both of the tax charges you described are based on the car's value, you may deduct both figures in Kentucky. TurboTax will allow you to input multiple lines so list your car twice- once for each of these figures.

  • For Personal Property Taxes/Car Registration Fees:

    1. Click the Federal Taxes tab at the top (or the Personal tab if using Home & Business)
    2. Then, Deductions & Credits
    3. In the "Cars and Other Things You Own" section, click Show more
    4. Next to "Car registration fees", click Start or Revisit
    5. Then, follow the interview screens from there (please see attached screenshot)

I'm confused, because someone else seems to have given the opposite answer here... <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2957688-usage-tax-on-new-vechiles-in-ky-is-the-usage-tax-deductibl...>

I'm leaning towards saying Usage Tax is not deductible in Kentucky, because the IRS website says for a property tax to be deductible it must be charged on a yearly basis. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc503
