Can I take the standard deduction in California if I have self employment income as well as business expenses?

Yes, you can take the standard deduction on the California state return and still deduct your business expenses on Schedule C. The two deductions are not related. The standard deduction applies to your personal deductions and Schedule C applies to your business deductions.
