Can I deduct vehicle mileage for off site meetings and trips to other work offices

I normally work at the same office location but occasionally have to drive to the corporate office or travel from home to the airport for a business flight.

Yes, driving to a temporary work site, even in the same locality is considered a deductible expense. This is considered a job related employee business expense and can be used as an itemized deduction.

The total expense that exceeds 2% of adjusted gross income can be added to the rest of your itemized deductions.  Some states allow this to be used to directly reduce income as well. If you would like to review additional information you can use this link: IRS Publication 463 Transportation

  • Sign into your TurboTax account and select your return (desktop or online)
  • Use the Search box in the upper right, Search for 2106
  •  then Jump to 2106
  • Continue to make the entries for your job related expenses (only expenses your employer did not reimburse)
