Can I deduct travel expenses

My husband's main residence is Memphis but he is currently working in Seattle as a subcontractor. He got a W2. He is working for a recruiter. So his jobsite changes. Can he deduct his lodging, travel, meals, etc while he is away working? It will be for at least 6 months

Can I deduct travel expenses

Yes, if his job sites are only temporary then he can deduct the associated costs of lodging, travel, and meals while he is away.  In order to deduct job-related expenses you will need to itemize your expenses and they must exceed 2% of your AGI.

You will enter them by doing the following

  1. Click on Federal Taxes
  2. Click on Deductions and Credits
  3. Scroll down to Employment Expenses and Click Show More
  4. Click Start next to Job-Related Expenses
