Can i deduct assisted living expenses paid for my mother

I paid a portion of my mother's assisted living expenses in 2016.  Can I deduct any of that payment.   My mother does not file taxes.

If you provided more than half of the living expenses for your mom, you may claim her as a dependent and deduct those expenses.
