Can i change to standard deduction

Unless you have entered more itemized deductions that are greater than the Standard Deduction for your filing status, you automatically receive the Standard Deduction.

Look at your Form 1040 Line 12.

Standard deductions for 2023

Single - $13,850 add $1,850 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Separately - $13,850 add $1,500 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Jointly - $27,700 add $1,500 for each spouse age 65 or older
Head of Household - $20,800 add $1,850 if age 65 or older

You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

possibly the only reason to change to the standard deduction if itemized deductions are greater is that you are married filing separately whereby both taxpayers must use the same method.
