Box 12 of W-2 Form

We have a W-2 from a public academic health science center. The W-2 "has code G, which means you or your employer contributed money to a deferred compensation plan. We'll check if this counts toward a credit for retirement savings." Does a public academic health science center qualify as a local or state government?

Most likely a public academic health science center would qualify as a state or local government entity (through the State University?).

You may be able to tell by the name of your Retirement Plan.

Here's more info on Box 12, Code G.
