In December, my entire apartment building (and the one next to it) burned down due to a fire that started in another unit (so not mine). I had renter's insurance but that along with some community and Red Cross donations only covered about 55% of the losses. I still was out just over $20,000. Is this something that I can file as a deduction on my taxes, perhaps as a casualty loss or something? If so, where in TurboTax and how do I file the itemized deduction?
