I entered home mortgage interest and when looking at the schedule A it does not show up on line 8. T

I would like to know why when I entered home mortgage interest it does not show up on the schedule A. My debt does not exceed the limits. This is simply my home mortgage interest on a single home from form 1098. Last year this interest appeared on line 10 and appeared on the schedule. This really a problem because even though IRS will not allow me to itemize my state will. I am suppose to use the schedule A 1040 to fill in the state form (CA) Please advise..

A couple things to check out:

First, be sure to double check how you entered your mortgage information on all the screens in TurboTax.  For example, if you do not select that the mortgage is secured by a property of yours, the interest will not be included as a deduction in your itemized expenses.

Second, the ability to deduct mortgage interest is much more restricted in 2018.  See more information below:
