I'm executor for estate of decedent who died in late 2022. I filed the 2022 form 1040 for decedent in April 2023. The estate earned a dividend in 2023. I have an estate EIN but forgot to notify the investment company payer so I just received the 1099-DIV showing 2023 income but they have the deceased persons SSN instead of the estate EIN. The company refuses to reissue the 1099 with the estate EIN. I can't find anything in IRS or online about how to handle this for the 2023 estate form 1041. Does anyone have information?

Since the interest income belongs to the estate, you would enter it on the estate tax return as though it was issued using the estate federal ID number. When you file the final return for the deceased, you indicated that it was the final return, so the IRS will hopefully not pursue the filing of a personal tax return in 2023. If you do get a notice regarding a tax return for the deceased for 2023, you can explain what happened and that should be sufficient.
Thank you so much. That seems like a very practical way to handle it.
