I am using TT 1040 Premier on PC. Taking standard deduction. 1040 SR line 10b asks for contributions so I selected + and entered $6000 of Charitable Contributions on the popup schedule. The $6000 was moved to line 10c which reduced the taxable income and the tax, this was good.
However line 10b shows red, an ERROR? The 1040SR also shows an error. I called support but didn't get a final resolution; I was told that I could deduct more than $300; literature on this is not clear. Do I need to put contributions into the section on Itemize deductions for charitable contributions even if I am taking standard deduction? HELP

Yes. All contributions should be entered in the federal charity section for sch A. The program will then correctly move the $300 above the line that is allowed for standard deduction filers.

Thank you, it worked. 1040 SR for line 10a should have a link to the Charitable Contributions and explain that the maximum is $300. After the $300 limit is satisfied it should automatically return the 1040 SR so the user can continue.
