I own both federal and California tax for 2022 but didn't file in April 2023 because I knew the tax deadline was postponed to October. However I just came to know from below sites California seems still needs the payment back in April 2023 which I have already passed.. My understanding is I have to file federal before I can file califrona, what should I do in this case? Shouldn't California tax payment also get postponed automatically if federal tax is?
According to this IRS page, the payment due date is also postponed to October which has been what I am thinking.
"The declaration permits the IRS to postpone certain tax-filing and tax-payment deadlines for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the disaster area. For instance, certain deadlines falling on or after Jan. 8, 2023, and before Oct. 16, 2023, are granted additional time to file through Oct. 16, 2023. As a result, affected individuals and businesses will have until Oct. 16 to file returns and pay any taxes that were originally due during this period. This includes 2022 individual income tax returns due on April 18, as well as various 2022 business returns normally due on March 15 and April 18."
However according to California site: https://www.ftb.ca.gov/file/when-to-file/due-dates-personal.html#:~:text=For%20taxpayers%20not%20imp...
"For taxpayers not impacted by the 2022-2023 winter storms, the due date to file your California state tax return and pay any balance due is April 18, 2023. However, California grants an automatic extension until October 16, 2023 to file your return, although your payment is still due by April 18,2023. No application is required for an extension to file."

This California FTB page says....
California individuals and businesses impacted by the 2022-23 winter storms qualify for an extension until Oct. 16, 2023, to file and pay taxes. View our emergency tax relief page for more information.

Oh that page you linked to and quoted says if you are NOT impacted by the storms. Scroll up and see the note at the top of that page in the grey box.
