When you enter the W2 in the federal return, TurboTax transfers the information to the state return so you only have to make a few adjustments to income.
I live in MD but worked in DC so employer used DC for my state taxes. How do I address this on the tax forms?
DC and Maryland have a reciprocity agreement which allows employees to only file/pay in their state of residence. Unfortunately, because your employer withheld in the wrong state, you can request a refund of the withholding with D.C. NONRESIDENT REQUEST FOR REFUND OR RULING. (Most state require you to file a nonresident return, which you can do, but it requires additional tax prep fees and usually takes longer to process. TurboTax may prompt you to file the DC return but if you want to use the form you can skip it in TurboTax). You can then file your Maryland resident tax return.
If you have not already done so, contact your employer and request to have Maryland taxes withheld instead of DC. @CZTD
