what should i do to e-file my CA state tax? received "Your transmission didn't go through" msg with the following explanation... 

We could not e-file your return for the following reason:

If you'd like to e-file your state return using TurboTax, it will need to be filed along with your federal return. You may also e-file your federal return now, then submit your state return later via TurboTax, by mail, or by visiting your state's tax website for alternative e-filing options.

i want to avoid filing by mail! does this mean i have to re-file my Federal to be able to e-file my CA state? how do i do this? please advise

You cannot efile your state tax return unless you also efile your Federal one (and Federal is accepted).

does this mean i have to wait until the federal filing is accepted? it's currently in "pending" status

Yes, If your Federal return has already been efiled, you will have to wait until the Federal return has been accepted before you can efile the State return.
