I received a 1099-Misc for a teacher stipend. I am not self-employed. This was not made from work hours and was paid by a different entity that is not my employer (school at which I teach). It was reported in Box 3 on the 1099-misc. Should this income be reported as “other income” or should it be reported as self-employment income on a Schedule C?
Here is some information about the stipend per the payer’s website:
“Child Care WAGE$® Iowa (WAGE$) is a salary supplement program offered by Iowa AEYC. WAGE$ works hand-in-hand with T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Iowa. WAGE$ offers salary supplements (also called stipends) to the early care and education workforce, based on the individual’s level of formal education and commitment to their program.”
