State Tax Filing

TurboTax Premier 2022 will not let me start my Virginia state tax return - keeps saying it is downloaded but will not start it.

Besides not starting, are there any error messages being received? In the interim, please make sure you check for updates.

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I used the CD to install Turbo Tax Premier 2022 and the software are all up-to-date, both Federal and Virginia State, but the VA return does NOT start. I shut down and rebooted the laptop (Windows 10 Pro) and the VA return still does not start. There are no other error messages.

Please follow the steps in the below TurboTax Help Article to see if that helps to resolve the issue for you.  You will want to make sure you save a copy of your tax file prior to trying the troubleshooting steps.

Thank you for your help. I followed the instructions as follows: 

1) Extract the TTStateCleanup.zip file and save to my desktop. 

• Download the TTStateCleanup.zip file and save it to my desktop or other easy-to-find location
• Double-click to open the zip folder
• Extract the contents of the folder to my desktop and open the extracted folder
• Right-click the downloaded file (TTCleanStates.exe) and select Run as Administrator
• Select your version (Personal or Business). At this step, it does NOT show any versions to select and it STOPS working!!! The software does NOT load the Virginia State return. The CD/download I bought is a DEFECTIVE product.
