is there a way to not use the state free state filing that comes with turbo tax and just pay the $24.99? I have already filed federal and want to file the state but someone else in our family is going to use the free state filing. Do they need to file first in order for me to file and pay the fee? Thanks
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you are using TurboTax Online you can only prepare and file one return per account. If you need to prepare another return, another account will need to be used/created. You can create up to 5 accounts with the same email address.
If you are using TurboTax Desktop you can prepare and e-file up to 5 federal returns and you can prepare 1 state return (there is an additional fee to e-file the state return).
Everyone pays the 24.99 state efile fee, even the first one. Are they doing a state return in the same state as you?
You get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is 19.99 to efile, usually goes up to 24.99 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.
