I recently received a letter that the state is asking for all W4's and 1099's in order to finish processing my taxes. I've never had this done, so i asked my employer for my W4. Can someone enlighten me on why?

Did it ask for W4's or W2's? it makes more sense if they were asking for your W2's because they may be auditing your tax return for one reason or another. There may be a discrepancy between what you reported and what they have on file.
They said W4 when I called
i have no idea why they would ask for your W4 when it is really not a tax document to begin with. The only reason i can think of is that you owe taxes to the state and they wish to review your W4 to see if you requested enough withholding to be taken from your pay.
I'll have to call back and get clarification. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated!
